About the PGA Tour
Tournament Structure
PGA Tour tournaments typically run Thursday through Sunday, with players competing over 72 holes (4 rounds). The player with the lowest total score wins the tournament.
Tournament Types:
- Regular Tournaments: Standard 72-hole events
- Major Championships: The four biggest events (Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, The Open)
- Playoff Events: FedEx Cup playoff tournaments
- Team Events: Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup
Scoring in Golf
Golf uses a unique scoring system where lower scores are better. Each hole has a "par" (expected number of strokes), and players try to complete the hole in as few strokes as possible.
Scoring Terms:
- Eagle: 2 strokes under par (-2)
- Birdie: 1 stroke under par (-1)
- Par: Expected number of strokes (0)
- Bogey: 1 stroke over par (+1)
- Double Bogey: 2 strokes over par (+2)
